To reach the East Rail Line (pale blue line), simply board any metro train. The line originates from Hung Hom Station and offers convenient connections at Kowloon Tong and Tai Wai Stations.
It is important to ensure that you board the train bound for Lo Wu and not Lok Ma Chau, as both of these trains depart from the same platforms.
The East Rail Line is represented by the light blue line in the centre of the map. At the top of the map, you will find Lo Wu Station, which is a recommended destination.
The journey from Hong Kong Central CBD area to Lo Wu Station, where you need to disembark, typically takes under an hour. It's worth noting that there are two immigration checkpoints along the way, and applying for the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Visa will require additional time.
If you have an Octopus card, you can use it to pay for the journey, which will cost approximately $36 HKD.

The visa office is conveniently located at Lo Wu, right after passing through Hong Kong immigration. You can find it upstairs on the left side, just before reaching the entrance to the Chinese Immigration (the exact location is shown in the video link provided). The office operates from 9 am to 10:30 pm, allowing ample time for visa processing. It's worth noting that you don't need to bring passport photos; simply remember to bring your passport and Chinese currency for any necessary fees.

Shenzhen has emerged as a popular shopping destination for residents of Hong Kong. On weekends, tens of thousands of people cross the border in search of great deals. Shoppers can find a wide range of items, including clothing, shoes, footwear, fresh produce, and vegetables. Many opt to bring their purchases back to Hong Kong using wheelie carts and suitcases on the train. If you are planning on doing a significant amount of shopping, it is advisable to bring a wheelie bag for convenience.
When visiting Shenzhen, it is important to note that the shopping experience may differ from that of Hong Kong. It is common to encounter salespeople who may follow you, approach you, and invite you to visit their stores as you walk along the streets. It is perfectly acceptable to politely decline their offers, even if they begin to negotiate prices before you enter their store or express interest in their products.

Luohu Commercial City
This expansive shopping centre boasts more than 700 stores, making it a bustling destination for both intentional shoppers and casual passersby. With a wide array of salespeople located inside and outside the complex, visitors can expect a lively atmosphere and numerous opportunities to explore various shops.
You can find very affordable prices at this place, but it's important to be cautious about counterfeit or imitation goods, as they can be difficult to spot at times.
This complex is ideal for those looking for clothing, toys, footwear, tailors, and massage/manicure salons. It is important to be prepared to negotiate prices and be mindful of pickpockets.
Dongmen Shopping Area
Shenzhen's most popular and bustling shopping area is known for its high foot traffic. With its vibrant atmosphere and wide range of retail options, it's no wonder that I found myself drawn to this area more than any other shopping destination in the city.
Located on the first two floors, the marketplace boasts a vibrant array of small food shops. Here, customers can witness their meals being prepared right in front of them as they stroll along the walkway. With a multitude of options to choose from, visitors can indulge in a variety of delectable dishes that can easily be enjoyed on the move. Noteworthy highlights include the tantalizing marinated pigs trotters and the flavorful chicken feet soup. For those with vegetarian or vegan preferences, there are also hot chips and refreshing fruit smoothies available.
Dongmen Walking Street, located near the Dongmen area, is a bustling hub of smaller shopping markets that offer a wide variety of clothing and shoes. In addition to these markets, visitors can also find popular international chain stores and restaurants such as McDonald's and KFC in this area.
If you want to reach the Dongmen area, simply walk straight outside of the Lo Wu Commercial City and follow Remington Walking Street. This street will lead you directly to the Dongmen shopping centre, located at a large overpass intersection.
SEG Computer Market
This shopping centre is a great destination for electronics enthusiasts. With eight floors dedicated to software and hardware for computers, as well as a wide selection of electrical appliances and accessories, you will find everything you need in one place. It is important to be cautious of imitations and remember that you can negotiate prices with the dealers.
Tips
When travelling to Shenzhen, it is important to note that Hong Kong Dollars cannot be used there. Additionally, the Octopus card, commonly used for transportation in Hong Kong, is not accepted in Shenzhen, except for the train journey between Hong Kong and Lu Wu. Therefore, it is advisable to obtain some Chinese Renminbi (RMB) before leaving Hong Kong, as it will be necessary for various expenses, including visa fees.
In Hong Kong, accessing RMB (Chinese currency) can be easily done at most ATMs. Whether in the city or suburban areas, you will find that many ATMs, including the one in my apartment complex, offer this service.
When visiting, it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes due to the abundance of escalators and steps.
It is recommended to bring hand sanitiser with you for convenient and quick hand cleaning while you are on the go.
When visiting, it is recommended to bring a suitcase or wheelie shopping bag with you. This will come in handy if you plan on making any purchases during your trip. Alternatively, you can also purchase a bag while you're there.
